The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware & software, security event monitoring & response, and related infrastructure activities at our Headquarters location in Washington D.C.

Working closely with and reporting to the Senior Manager, Information Systems, the Systems Administrator will participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure as well as providing high touch client side and remote support for both Windows and Mac systems for the Institution’s Headquarters. This individual ensures that server & client system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and core business applications are proactively monitored, maintained, and supported.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in assisting project teams with technical issues in the initiation and planning phases. These activities include the definition of needs, benefits, and technical strategy; research & development within the project life cycle; technical analysis and design; and support of operations staff in executing, testing and rolling-out the solutions.

The System Administrator is responsible for the security monitoring of events and logs and support of the following systems: Windows and Mac client systems, physical and virtual Windows Server and Application systems that support enterprise business functions, network and wireless, and network security

Principal Responsibilities

  • Manage and monitor all installed server systems and network infrastructure.
  • Install, configure, test and maintain operating systems, application software and system management tools.
  • Monitor endpoint security logs and initiate appropriate level of response mitigation.
  • Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability.
  • Provide client and remote side multi-level Help Desk support primarily to our Headquarters campus in Washington D.C.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions and work with developers to implement those fixes.
  • Maintain security, backup, and redundancy strategies.
  • Build, maintain, and deploy client and server systems.
  • Develop and maintain efficient/automated client system support.
  • Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks.
  • Participate in the design of information and operational support systems.
  • Provide remote multi-level support as required to six additional site locations.
  • Liaise with vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • Record requests, issues, and solutions using service ticketing software. Keep all tickets and projects updated and track time in a detailed format.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or higher from an accredited college or university in related technical discipline.
  • Experience managing AWS, Google Apps, or similar cloud environments.
  • Knowledge of automation tools and scripting, including PowerShell, Perl, Ruby, Python, PHP, Bash, Ansible, Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of SQL databases and query language, Excel expertise.
  • Systems auditing experience.
  • Experience in business processes and data analysis.
  • Certifications such as Security+, Network+, CySA, Microsoft
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
