IT Systems Administrator

The Carnegie Institution for Science seeks a full-time IT Systems Administrator in the Department of Embryology.

Responsibilities:

  • Support for all hardware devices including Macintosh/Windows/Linux computers, tablets, smartphones, digital handsets, IP phones, IP Cameras, HP & Brother printers and audio/visual equipment.
  • Administration of Windows Active Directory infrastructure
  • Administration of VSphere 6.5 infrastructure
  • Support for all Macintosh desktop software
  • Software license administration and keyserver maintenance.
  • Respond to help desk requests as necessary
  • Perform general technical support tasks and projects as assigned by IT Manager
  • New employee tech setup

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, team player mentality
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Windows Server 2008-2016 management
  • Mac OS X experience is essential
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Windows 7 and 10 support
  • Expert knowledge using and supporting Linux based operating systems & services. (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu, ect.
  • Management, monitoring, and access control of large scale networked storage hardware
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer hardware and peripherals
  • Knowledge of basic networking principles & hardware
  • Demonstrated proficiency supporting Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds

Preferred Knowledge and Skills:

  • FileMaker Pro database development and support
  • Experience with Apple Motion and Final Cut Pro
  • Experience with Animation software
  • Working knowledge of Drupal CMS
  • Experience with Unifi Wireless Systems
  • Experience with A/V systems
  • Experience with DUO 2FA integrations
  • Any graphic design background a plus.

The Department of Embryology is one of six departments comprising the Carnegie Institution for Science. The department functions as a private, non-profit research institute affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University and is located adjacent to the JHU Homewood campus in Baltimore, MD.
