The Earth and Planets Laboratory, Carnegie Institution for Science, seeks applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in the field of experimental petrology. The research will focus on element partitioning relevant to deep magma ocean.
Minimum qualifications: The applicant must have a PhD degree in Geosciences or related fields by the time of the employment. Experience in research using at least one of the high-pressure tools (piston-cylinder apparatus, multi-anvil device, or diamond-anvil cell) is required. Candidates should be familiar with at least one of the analytical tools (synchrotron X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, or electron microprobe).
Desired qualifications: Knowledge of planetary differentiation and chemical reaction at high pressure and temperature is desirable. Successful candidates are expected to work both independently and in collaborative group environment.
The appointment is for one year, with renewal for a second year pending progress. The position will be based at the Broad Branch Road campus of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC, with a starting date after August 1, 2022. This is an FLSA Exempt position.
