Job: Intern – Plankton Research

Department: BSE – Biosphere Sciences & Engineering

Salary: $7,000 stipend

Location: Pasadena, CA

Overview:

We are seeking a summer intern to collaborate with our research group on projects related to plankton ecology.  The duration of this internship spans from June 17 – Aug 16, 2024.

Responsibilities:

Activity this summer for which we seek an intern’s help includes: 

1) Research on zooplankton interactions using video analysis of behavioral interactions between plankton predators and prey

2) Building a digital microscope for semi-automated monitoring of plankton using open-source materials

Either project could allow for the intern to take leadership in analyses, and the development of an independent project. Depending on the candidate’s interests, an intern may also become involved in large-scale data-intensive research on global patterns of plankton response to climate change.

Experience:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program in ecology, environmental sciences, environmental engineering, or other related fields
  • Must possess basic knowledge of environmental sciences
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Interest in working with microscopes

Compensation: $7,000 stipend
