Department: DGE – Global Ecology
Location: Stanford, CA
Postdoctoral Fellow in Eco-informatics / Quantitative Microbial Ecology
I am looking for a postdoc with strong quantitative skills to analyze diverse ecological (time series or large spatial-scale data) and metagenomic datasets (e.g., Tara Oceans, host-associated microbiomes, etc.). There are several potential projects and considerable academic freedom. The overarching goal is to uncover novel ecological patterns in community assembly, resilience, and predictability, and in microbial interactions or adaptations. The position will be based at the Department of Global Ecology of Carnegie Institution at Stanford, CA.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in ecology, data science, bioinformatics, or related disciplines by the start of the appointment. Experience in diverse statistical analyses of ecological or metagenomic datasets is required. While a background in microbial ecology is helpful, applicants with the knowledge of other ecological systems and excellent quantitative analysis skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated ability to develop and advance projects in a timely manner are welcome. Additionally, we seek candidates who will work to increase the representation of historically underrepresented groups in ecology.
Fellows will join the Department of Global Ecology (DGE) at the Stanford University campus of the Carnegie Institution for Science. They will work primarily under the guidance of Dr. Elena Litchman, with opportunities to collaborate with other researchers at DGE, Stanford University, and beyond. Founded in 2002, scientists at DGE conduct basic and applied research into the interactions among the Earth’s ecosystems and people. The Carnegie Institution has a commitment to scientific excellence and diversity; we strongly encourage applications from candidates who will enrich and foster a culturally diverse and inclusive environment.
The position is available immediately. Review of applicants will be ongoing until the position is filled. Initial appointments are for one year, with possible renewal. Carnegie offers competitive salary and comprehensive benefits. Applications consist of a CV, a one-page statement of research interests, and contact information for three references submitted through DGE’s application portal below. Please contact Elena Litchman (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions about the position.
